Recognized
by the Business Environmental Alliance of Sonoma County for its
Best Practices Award for their environmentally sound business
practices, Osmosis Day Spa, located on a secluded five acres just
90 minutes north of San Francisco, strives to create a compelling
“green spa experience.” A Japanese style retreat with beautiful
bonsai and bamboo gardens, Osmosis offers a grounded and holistic
experience,
using recycled and natural products.
I was very excited to review my first ever eco-friendly spa, so
decided to make the trek to Osmosis Day Spa a 24-hour get-away so
I could get a feel for the area. We stayed at the Occidental Inn,
a bed and breakfast nearby. From organic wines to organic produce,
you can get anything you want that is natural, healthy, and earth
friendly at a number of stores in town.
We started our spa treatments at Osmosis bright and early Monday
morning. I had reserved the Rejuvenation package, the spa’s most
popular package, for both of us. It‘s 2 ½ hours of pure enjoyment
that includes tea in the Japanese Garden Room, a Cedar Enzyme
Bath, and a 75-minute Swedish Esalen massage.
After being greeted we were shown to our changing rooms and we
were instructed to sit in the meditation room that looks out into
the Japanese gardens. An attendant brought us a ritual peppermint
tea blend and explained our upcoming procedures.
After our tea we entered a private bath area where there were two
wooden tubs filled with ground cedar, rice bran and plant enzymes.
The combination of these ingredients, which a bath attendant
covers you in up to your chin, works in tandem with your metabolic
process to heat and detoxify the body. We both loved the fragrance
of the cedar and our bath attendant slipped in often to bring us
water and cold cloths.
After the bath experience, we waited upstairs for our therapists
to bring us to our respective massage rooms. Both Michael and I
had great massages and were impressed with the techniques of our
therapists and would happily have stayed other treatments.
Michael and I have both been to day spas before, but this so far
has been the most unique with its eco-friendly environment,
location, and treatment choices. Massages at Osmosis are 75
minutes as opposed to a 60-minute day spa or a 50-minute resort
spa option and prices are reasonable compared to other spas that
we have visited. But what I really liked about this spa is that it
was quiet, allowing spa-goers to take in the beauty and
tranquility of the entire experience.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I absolutely encourage
you to visit Osmosis for either a day trip or an overnight
excursion. If time allows, include the Sonoma Coast in your trip
and visit some wineries. You won’t be disappointed.
Abundant Regards,
Anne and Michael Keefe
